Small Grant Support Guidelines

Purpose of Small Grant Support
The Oklahoma Arts Council provides financial assistance through the Small Grant Support category to maintain or strengthen arts programs provided to the public including outreach to underserved populations. First time applicants are required to submit applications in the Small Grant Support category. In general, applications in this category can be characterized by one or more of the following:

  • Applicants with operating budgets of $25,000 or less
  • Arts activities serving rural, ethnic or other underserved communities
  • Projects that may be smaller in scope
  • Applicants who have not applied in Major Grant Support

Deadline

  • 60 days prior to the start date of the activity. The required support material must be mailed and postmarked on or before the e-grant submission date.
  • Late applications and/or late support material will not be reviewed – no exceptions.

Who is Eligible?

  • Organizations that are non-profit, non-religious, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and incorporated in the State of Oklahoma
  • Public School Districts
  • Public Libraries
  • Public Universities or Colleges
  • Entities of Local Government (cities or counties)
  • Tribal Governments

Who is not eligible?

  • Religious institutions or religiously affiliated organizations as defined by their by-laws
  • Individuals
  • State agencies
  • Individual school sites - see Small Grant Support for Schools

What are the Funding Limitations?

  • Each applicant is eligible to apply for two Small Grant Support grants per year.
  • Requested Amount per project cannot exceed 50% of the total cost of the project and must have at least 1:1 match.

What is the Grant Period?

  • Projects must take place between July 1 – June 30.

How does the Review Process work?
Applications will be rated in response to:

  • The completeness of the application.
  • How well each project within the application meets the established criteria.
  • Organizations should take into consideration that reviewers may have little or no knowledge of the applicant other than what is presented in the application.

How is Funding Determined?

  • Organizations may request up to $2500 per project.
  • Match Requirements – Organizations are required to match OAC funding with at least 1:1. Matching funds may consist of
  • Cash (income generated through ticket sales, program advertising, budget allocations from the organization’s cash on hand, memberships, corporate/foundation contributions, etc.)
  • A combination of Cash plus In-Kind (e.g. volunteer time, services materials, space and any other items of value necessary for the project which the applicant would have to pay for it the hours or items were not contributed.)
  • Matching funds need not be in hand at the time of the application but can be anticipated.
  • At least 50% of the requested amount must be matched with actual cash.
