Snow on the Sangre de Cristos by Bill Harrison

The Artwork

The foreground of this landscape shows large flat pasture lands leading to a row of light-colored trees. The middleground of the painting shows dark vegetation covered hills before a background of snow capped mountains. The top half of the canvas is dedicated to loose, yet detailed handling of the cloud formations above the mountains.

The Artist

Bill Harrison attended the Kansas City Art Institute and the Art Center College in Los Angeles. For twelve years, he worked professionally as a commercial artist in Los Angeles, Wichita, and Tulsa. In 1968, Harrison began to paint full time often visiting the landscapes of New Mexico for inspiration.
