Undercurrents and Plateaus
North Gallery - May 16 – July 13 , 2025

Artist Katherine Liontas-Warren from Cache, Oklahoma, explores the sublime in her depictions of the natural world. Holding a Master of Fine Art from Texas Tech University and a Bachelor of Science from Southern Connecticut State University, Liontas-Warren is a classically trained printmaker who taught drawing, printmaking, and watercolor for 37 years as a professor at Cameron University in the southwestern Oklahoma community of Lawton. Having retired to become a full-time professional artist, she is guided in her work by a passion for exploring the movement, rhythm, and balance of nature through a variety of media and materials.
“Making art is an ongoing process of discoveries that never ceases,” says Liontas-Warren, whose works are currently centered on themes of land and sea. Through realistic and abstracted creations, she explores nature’s dynamic wonders. In this exhibition are some of Liontas-Warren’s newest works, showcasing her exploration of different painting media. Curated to illustrate an array of styles, works in this exhibition feature the artist’s depictions of the sea through watercolor, mixed media, and oils.

Having accumulated numerous awards and honors and having been included in many solo and juried exhibitions, Liontas-Warren has vast experience in the arts. Her notable accolades include participation in national and international print exchanges like the Jackalope portfolio invitational and inclusion in the portfolio East/West—Contemporary American Prints. Notably, Liontas-Warren received an Arts in Education Award at the 2014 Oklahoma Governor’s Arts Awards and is a recipient of Cameron University’s Bhattacharya Research Excellence Award. She is a member of the Cameron University Faculty Hall of Fame and the Phi Kappa Phi Distinguished Faculty.
Liontas-Warren has conducted workshops at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Lawton; the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman, Oklahoma; and, the Wichita Falls Museum of Art in Texas. She has also led plein air—“open air”—watercolor and hiking workshops for the Sierra Club in Marin County, California.
