The Artwork
In this serigraph, a crop dusting plane is seen as it heads toward the viewer. The sky behind the plane is a dusty mixture of blue and silver, and the ground below is a mix of yellows with diagonal lines. A line of red runs vertically from the plane and divides the earth below.
The Artist
Born in Springfield, Missouri, Dwight Pogue earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kansas State College (now Pittsburg State University) and his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Oklahoma. From 1971 to 1975, Pogue was an art professor at Cameron University in Lawton. As a Fulbright recipient, he taught at the Bradford College of Art and Technology from 1957 to 1977. Since 1979, Pogue has taught printmaking and drawing at Smith College in Northampton, Massachussettes. Pogue is the founder and director of the Smith College Print Workshop which has brought noted artists and master printers together to produce limited edition prints since 1984.
His work has been exhibited across the U.S. and internationally in juried exhibitions such as the British International Print Biennale, Norwegian International Print Triennial, and the Hanga Annual in Tokyo.
