The Artwork
This work was first shown in the Kirkpatrick Galleries of Omniplex Science Museum (now Science Museum Oklahoma)in October of 2000 where it was purchased. Then it was viewed by another visitor who expressed interest in purchasing it to take the tapestry to China for the Oklahoma Delegation to present to the President of of The People's Republic of China. The artist agreed to replicate the work with a similar design, and this new work entitle Path to Friendship was presented to the Chinese President in April of 2001.
The Artist
JoAnn Adams is Professor Emeritus at the University of Central Oklahoma where she taught for 24 years before retiring in 1998. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising Design, Master of Arts in Art Education, and Master of Fine Arts in Design from the University of Oklahoma. She continued her education and received her Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education from Oklahoma State University.
Recognized as Oklahoma's Art Educator of the Year (1980), she received the Distinguished Service Award from National Art Education Association (1984), and the Governor's Arts in Education Award (1986). She received Merit Awards from the University in 1996 and 1998. Adam's career has taken directions largely associated with academia. Her work is in numerous private and corporate collections and she has exhibited paintings and weavings in several state and national exhibitions.
