About the Docent Program
On behalf of the State of Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Arts Council administers a volunteer docent program at the Oklahoma State Capitol, equipping docents to lead tours giving visitors from around the world an engaging experience in Oklahoma art, history, architecture, and government. Through regular trainings, Oklahoma Arts Council staff prepares docents with extensive knowledge about touring techniques, group management, accessibility practices, and more. Individuals interested in becoming a volunteer docent can submit an application below.
What Are the Requirements?
Docents are required to attend trainings, held at regular dates and times, and must be able to lead tours of at least 45 minutes. No prior knowledge of subject matter is necessary. Tours will typically be held between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tours may occasionally be requested for other times. Trainings will be held on a weekday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m (dates and times TBD). All applicants will be required to complete the training program and a background check prior to leading tours.

Pass a background check
Attend regular trainings
Lead 45-minute tours*
Be punctual and reliable
Represent the tour program in a nonpartisan capacity

Passion for sharing about art, history, architecture, and civics with visitors of all ages
Comfortable speaking in public to a wide variety of audiences
Bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply

How Do I Apply?
Complete the application below. After we receive your application, our staff will contact you. This will be a great opportunity for you to ask questions. You will then be given the opportunity to attend a training to see if the program is for you.
