Curriculum Summary

This course focuses on the artistic tradition of assemblage. Students will interact with various media, art forms, and traditions created by artists from around the world by amassing and sculpting materials. By engaging with artists who create works in folk assemblage style, students will repurpose found objects, create wondrous painted pieces, and incorporate recycled and repurposed materials to create something beautiful. This six-session course encompasses the artworks of several prominent folk assemblage artists, including Lonnie Holley, Manuel Jimenez, and Bessie Harvey. It will include projects based on the art of assemblage found in other artists' works around the world.
