Oklahoma City -The Oklahoma Arts Council and Freedom West Community Development Corporation are partnering to present a Town Hall Meeting for the Arts on Wednesday, December 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Graceful Arts Center. The center is located at 523 Barnes Street in downtown Alva. The meeting will provide an overview of Council grants and programs available for organizations, schools, artists and local governments.

Ken Kelsey of Freedom West said the town hall meeting is part of the Council’s efforts to strengthen arts and cultural resources in Alva and the northwest part of the state. “Freedom West Community Development Corporation has been working with the Oklahoma Arts Council to make Alva an important community for developing arts and cultural resources in this part of Oklahoma. Our partnership with the Council gives organizations and artists access to valuable support.”

During the meeting the Council will provide an overview of the agency’s grant process with tips on how to improve grant writing and arts programming. Staff will discuss efforts to create cultural districts around the state and talk about their Leadership Arts program. The Council’s education curator will highlight free resources available to educators for teaching Oklahoma history through art, and discuss opportunities for local grade schools to bring in artists for school-wide performances. Attendees will be given time to network and discuss their needs.

Alva is one of three Oklahoma Regional Arts Network communities. The Oklahoma Arts Council established the network in 2010 to foster cultural development and increase funding to rural and underserved areas of Oklahoma.

There is no cost to participate. An optional lunch will be provided for $10. To register contact the Graceful Arts Center at (580) 327-ARTS (2787) or gracefulartscenter@gmail.com.
