Oklahoma City -The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has awarded grants totaling $68,500 to four Oklahoma arts and cultural organizations. The grants were awarded in their Art Works grant category.
Grants were awarded to East Central University in Ada for a Native American art and history program; Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition for its emerging artist program, Momentum; Tulsa Ballet to support its presentation of A Ballets Russes Evening; and, Tulsa Opera to support its presentation of Dead Man Walking.
The recently announced Art Works grants are in addition to $863,000 in funding awarded in other categories by the federal agency to Oklahoma organizations in May of this year. Organizations included the Oklahoma Arts Council, which was awarded a state agency partnership grant of $773,000 in May. Total NEA funding announced for Oklahoma's arts and cultural industry in 2011 is $931,500.
"We are pleased to see a number of Oklahoma organizations applying for and receiving funding from the NEA," Council executive director, Kim Baker said. "NEA support is important to our state as we continue to build our creative economy, attract tourist dollars, and enrich our communities."
