Bio:
Dustin Howard is a musician and Emmy-award winning composer based in Tulsa who has worked with traditional and alternative schools in the area. He runs a private studio and venue called Noise Town where he offers music instruction in guitar, bass, piano, synth, and drums. He also provides instruction on recording software and computers. With a philosophy that music is an art form accessible to all, his approach encourages learners to practice songwriting in the earliest stages of their training.
Howard began performing with local bands in his teens and eventually developed skills to write music, play, and record with numerous touring bands. Currently, he is the lead singer, songwriter, keyboardist, and guitarist for the Oklahoma-based touring band GROUCHO. As a studio musician, Howard has recorded with notable musicians and engineers including Grammy Award winner Trent Bell (Chainsaw Kittens, Flaming Lips, Rainbows are Free) and Stephen Egerton (Descendants/ALL). Howard’s work as a composer includes original film soundtracks, video games, and podcasts. He has composed scores for Sesame Street, HBO, and several episodes of Osiyo: Voices of the Cherokee People, for which he was a recipient of three Heartland Emmy Awards in 2021 and 2022.
As an educator, Howard strives to bring his professional experiences to students and give them a glimpse into options for music-related careers. He has several years of experience working as a teaching artist at Tulsa’s bART Center for Music, providing individual and group instruction. One of Howard's most rewarding experiences was working at Tulsa’s Street School, which motivated him to apply for the Oklahoma Teaching Artist Roster and make education a larger part of his musical career.
