Once you have identified a number of artists that potentially suited for your program, visit with each to discuss the particulars of your project. A preliminary interview will help you to determine the kinds of services your artist can provide, whether or not they would be a good fit for your program and target audience, and their availability.

Following are items you should discuss with a potential project artist:

• Artistic fees and other costs (such as travel and relocation expenses)

• Specific arts activities, teaching methods and services the artist can provide

• Fee structure and payment schedule

• Creative ideas for program delivery and lesson planning

It might be preferable to discuss fee structure, payment schedule, and ideas for lesson planning during a second interview.
