Panchromatic: Spectrum of Possibilities

Jabee Williams
Jabee Williams is an Emmy Award-winning rapper from Oklahoma City whose music was cited by rap artist Chuck D. of the influential rap group Public Enemy as having the potential to change the world. His latest album, “Black Future,” released in 2016, reached as high as #25 on iTunes, and featured a track with Chuck D. titled “Monument” that premiered on Billboard. Williams has toured with Run the Jewels and hip-hop legend Murs. In 2015, he performed in concerts across Europe. He has performed at Kevin Durant’s celebrity basketball game and Russell Westbrook’s celebrity comedy show. Among his awards, Williams earned the Oklahoma Gazette’s Woody Award for Best Hip Hop in 2007 and 2009, the Oklahoma Street Music Award for Album of the Year in 2009, and he was recognized by URB magazine as an Artist to Watch in 2010. Williams’ 2014 collaboration with Oklahoma City-based Funnel Design Group to create a television commercial promoting Science Museum Oklahoma earned him an Emmy for commercial writing and performance.

Building a successful music career requires knowledge of how to brand yourself as an artist and how to promote your work. In this session, you will hear from local musicians who have professional experience in branding, marketing, recording, merchandising, and outreach. Participants will gain an understanding of resources that are available to help them build an audience and create new opportunities for their work.



EastPoint: New Community Development on Oklahoma City’s East Side

Seeing a need to change the narrative of Oklahoma City’s east side, a team of young business leaders and entrepreneurs from Oklahoma City’s African American community are stepping up to revitalize a stretch of the city’s northeast 23rd Street corridor known as EastPoint. They are working toward creating a vibrant business district in an area of the city that for decades has been neglected. Upon completion, EastPoint will feature several new businesses while serving as an intersection of culture, food, and fellowship. Hear how this team of visionaries and developers has initiated and fostered momentum toward transforming their collective vision into reality.
