Oklahoma Arts and Military Summit II

Geared towards both the military and arts communities, the Oklahoma Arts and Military Summit II will take place as a post-conference event. Featuring special guest speakers, group discussions, and a workshop, the summit will offer attendees the skills and knowledge to develop cross-sector collaborative programs that will bring meaningful arts learning opportunities to Oklahomans across the spectrum of military experiences. Please join us to learn more about expanding arts programming to uniquely meet the needs of the military community statewide.

Schedule for the Summit:

9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. — Registration, Coffee and Networking

9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. — Presentation of Colors and Opening Remarks
• Presentation of Colors — Putnam City West High School ROTC Students
• Welcome — Amber Sharples, OAC Executive Director
• Welcome — Major General Myles Deering, Secretary of Veteran Affairs, State of Oklahoma
• Review of Agenda — Jennifer Allen-Barron, OAC Arts Education Director

10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. — Communicating the Human Experience of War — Through Art, Dr. Arthur DeGroat

11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. — Panel: Arts/Community Partnerships Across the Military Continuum
• Troy Hill — (Veteran, Artist, Photographer)
• Sandra Oxford — (Office Manager, Tulsa Vet Center; Chair, Tulsa Mayor's Veterans Advisory Council)
• Dr. Barbara Scruggs — (Community Volunteer -- Red Cross, Coffee Bunker)
• Major Denise Zona — (Mental Health Flight Commander, Tinker Air Force Base)

12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. — Lunch on your own (maps provided)

1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. — Breakout Sessions
• (Arts Sector) Military Culture 101 for Nonprofits, Rachel Mims, MS, ATR-BC, LPC-AT
• (Military Sector) Frottage Drawing: Translating Experience into Art, Douglas Shaw Elder and artists from the Firehouse Arts Center

2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. — What’s Next? Action Steps and Take-Aways
