Panchromatic: Spectrum of Possibilities

Naomi SchliesmanNaomi Schliesman
Naomi Schliesman is the Artist Development Director for Springboard for the Arts’ office in Fergus Falls, Minneapolis. In this role, she leads the Hinge Arts at the Kirkbride residency program and teaches Springboard’s “Work of Art: Business Skills for Artists” workshop. A native of Fergus Falls, Schliesman holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with emphasis in sculpture from Minnesota State University Moorehead and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to fellowships from Ragdale—a nonprofit interdisciplinary artist community in Illinois—and from the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, Schliesman has participated in residencies at the Vermont Studio Center as well as Hospitalfield Arts in the United Kingdom. In addition to traveling the world to study art, her accomplishments include having earned second place in the Miami University Young Sculptors Competition and being named a finalist for Contemporary Craft’s LEAP Award.

Successful Public Art Proposals for Artists

This session will equip artists with the knowledge of how to successfully write, submit, and present their public art proposals for approval. From evaluating and responding to public art opportunities, to presenting yourself, to planning and budgeting, presenters Robbie Kienzle and Naomi Schliesman will cover the necessary steps for preparing your proposal for a formal selection process. Time will be allotted for audience Q&A.

Marketing, Promotions, and Social Media for Artists

Define your product, discover your target audience, make decisions about how you sell your work, and identify a budget and strategy for your artistic business. This session will explore core elements of marketing and promotions by providing research, resources, and exercises that will help you define and refine your artistic product. We will cover strategies for identifying and reaching your target audience with special focus on maximizing your online and social media presence. This session is designed for artists of all disciplines.



Pricing your Work: a Session for Artists

Discover an analytical approach to defining key elements that will help you calculate the costs and prices of your art for a variety of markets. This session will illustrate the factors of product production that apply to all items in the market. Once you understand what each of the variables are, you will be able to customize a formula that fits your individual business model. This session is designed for artists working in all disciplines.
