Dory Thomas Dory Thomas is a retired coordinator for the Lawton Public Library with a master’s degree in library science from the University of Oklahoma. She has years of experience in community programs and is an active promoter of arts and humanities projects in Lawton. Thomas has been instrumental in a community-wide reading project recently launched in Lawton, funded through the National Endowment for the Arts' (NEA) Big Read program. She has also been involved in a local "Let’s Talk About It" program, brought to Lawton by Oklahoma Humanities. Thomas currently serves as the chair of Lawton's International Festival. Her arts-related efforts include collaboration with the coordinator of the Cameron University Library to launch Lawton Chautauqua, and production of an original script based on the book "Out to Pasture."

Now in it's 44th Year, Lawton's International Festival was created out of a desire to promote greater of awareness and appreciation of Lawton's diverse heritage. The festival provides local ethnic and cultural organizations an opportunity to share traditions and aspects of their cultures. The festival is made possible through the volunteerism and participation of local schools, residents, civic organizations, and businesses. The multicultural celebration has evolved into a three-day event averaging 30,000 in attendance. Hear from key festival leaders on how this festival continues to evolve while developing community spirit.
