Theme: Arts, Health, and Wellbeing Across the Military Continuum

Geared towards both the arts and military communities, the Oklahoma Arts and the Military Summit III will take place as a pre-conference event. Featuring special guest speakers, group discussions, a workshop, and a performance by Perpetual Motion Dance (perpetualmotiondance.org), the summit will offer attendees the knowledge and skills to develop cross-sector collaborative programs that will bring meaningful arts learning opportunities to Oklahomans across the spectrum of military experiences. Join us to learn how to expand arts programming to uniquely meet the needs of the military community statewide.

Individuals do not need to register for the full Oklahoma Arts Conference to attend this one-day summit, but they must RSVP by contacting Erika Wilhite at erika.wilhite@arts.ok.gov.

Executive directors from Oklahoma’s arts organizations will convene in an informal roundtable forum. This session will provide a space for executive directors to discuss the unique challenges that organizational leaders must navigate while sharing innovative approaches for success.
2:00pm - 5:00pm Native American Artist Forum
Location: Dorothy Sunrise Lorentino Educational Center, 1608 SW 9th Street
Room: Dorothy Sunrise Lorentino Educational Center
Offered to Native American artists living in Oklahoma artists who wish to learn about resources available to support their work and creative practice, and to connect with other Native American artists. Whether a performing artist, a craftsperson, a visual artist, writer, filmmaker, creative entrepreneur, or cultural keeper, this session can provide information to advance your creative practice and career development. Attend and learn about local and national artist support services, grants, and opportunities for professional development. Refreshments and time for networking will be provided. Bring business cards or promotional materials to share with others in attendance.

5:00pm - 7:00pm Welcome to Lawton: A Reception Hosted by the Leslie Powell Gallery

Stop by the Leslie Powell Gallery in downtown Lawton for an evening reception free and open to all conference attendees. The gallery is currently featuring works by Oklahoma artists Greg Erway and Rick Sinnett. Light refreshments will be provided.
6:00pm - 7:30pm NEA Big Read Event Featuring Ross Gay
Location: Cameron University, 2800 W. Gore Blvd
Room: Shepler Ballroom
Made possible through the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read program, the Arts and Humanities Division of the City of Lawton will present a special reading by Ross Gay, award winning author of "Catalogue of Unabashed Gratitude," in the Shepler Ballroom at Cameron University, on October 17 at 6:00 p.m. Free and open to the public, the event is being presented in conjunction with the 2023 Oklahoma Arts Conference. It is being hosted in partnership with Cameron University and The McMahon Auditorium Authority. Additional support has been provided by Oklahoma Humanities.
